Dufton is an unspoiled rural settlement which sits below Great Dun Fell. It has changed little over the past 100 years. It is built around a village green, with houses dating from the 17th Century onwards.

Some of the earliest written records of the village are from the 1320s and the place-name Dufton means 'dove town or farmstead'.

Local features include Dufton Ghyll Wood - an area of ancient woodland - Dufton Pike, Knock Pike, Cross Fell and High Cup Nick.

Dufton is just four miles from the historic market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland, with local amenities including a swimming pool, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets, independent shops and a train station on the famous Settle to Carlisle rail line.
